IMIA believes great organisations are driven by great teams committed to cross organisational collaboration in the pursuit of shared aspirations. IMIA identifies and develops customised procedures that benefit from the latest thinking and practices tried and tested in large-scale complex environments in order to:

Develop leadership teams with the moral courage to succeed by doing what is right;
Sustain leadership development through lifelong learning;
Create meaningful shared purpose and aspirations; and
IMIA has also been involved in significant research programs funded by the Australian Research Council linkage grants with partners that include Charles Sturt University, the University of New South Wales, leading Australian banks, the St. James Ethics Centre, NCR, and many other research initiatives supported by, for example, News Ltd, AMP, Telecom, and others (see also sponsored research for more details).

IMIA was established in 1970 by 5 major Australian corporations (Amatil, APM, CSR, ICI and the Bank of NSW - now Westpac) to cater for the educational needs of experienced, highly mobile and geographically dispersed managers moving towards leadership roles in organisations subject to significant change.
