Currently Executive Director, Advancement & Alumni, University of Western Sydney; Non-Executive Director (NED), Hawkesbury Foundation; Chairman, Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation; Founding Chairman and Trustee, Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation and Chairman, Client Advisory Group, Centric Wealth. Joe is an experienced NED, previously holding board roles with companies in a variety of sectors including Chairman, Immune Systems Therapeutics; Executive Chairman Children’s Cancer Institute Australia; NED, Aurora Community Television Limited; Chairman, Aurora Community Television Arts Foundation and Vice President of the Stanford Australia Association.
Joe previously held CEO and senior executive positions in the public, private and not for profit sector organisations. As Executive Chairman, Children’s Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA) he initiated and lead CCIA’s strategy to become one of Australia’s premier medical research institutes, including the construction of CCIA’s ‘new home’, a world class $100 million new research facility which was completed in November 2009. In 2003 Joe was appointed Executive Strategy Adviser to the Managing Director, Publishing & Broadcasting Ltd. As Chief Executive of TAB Limited’s two gaming businesses, MaxGaming and Data Management Services, he led the development and launch of these new gaming businesses across over 2,500 sites. In 1996 Joe was appointed NSW Treasury’s Project Director for the privatisation and $1billion sale and listing on the ASX of the NSW TAB. In mid 1998 he was appointed Head of the NSW Electricity Asset Sales Taskforce to prepare $30billion of government owned electricity assets for sale. Prior to this, Joe held senior executive roles in both Sydney Water and the NSW Department of Lands He holds a Doctorate in Business Leadership (DBL) from Charles Sturt University, an MBA from the University of New England, is a Fellow, Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Senior Fellow, Corporate Director’s Association. In 2007 he was awarded Stanford Australia Foundation’s inaugural scholarship for non profit leaders to the Centre for Social Innovation at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in Palo Alto, California
